ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY

The Department of Library at VIDYASAGAR COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE serves as an intellectual hub, supporting students and faculty across all disciplines. With a rich collection of books, journals, magazines, and digital resources, it provides a vibrant environment for academic pursuit and knowledge enhancement.

Established in 1991, the library supports the academic programs of the college, offering specialized collections for Commerce, Computer Science, Literature, and Science departments. The library’s mission is to provide access to up-to-date resources and foster a culture of independent learning and inquiry.

The library environment is designed to be conducive to focused study and collaborative learning. It features quiet zones, group reading rooms, and research spaces for project work, thesis development, and exam preparation. Services such as reprography, reference consultation, and book reservation are available to all users.

Our library is not just a physical space—it is a learning partner. Regular orientation programs, book exhibitions, literacy awareness drives, and reading competitions are organized to engage students and instill a lifelong love for reading and inquiry. Abuthahir Basha our experienced and approachable Chief Librarian, the library staff remains committed to providing personalized assistance and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. With over a decade of expertise in library science, she ensures that the library operates with efficiency, relevance, and vision. With over 19 years of experience, B. Abuthahir Basha as guided two M.Phill canditates through Bharathiar University and he serves as the Chief Librarian of Vidyasagar College Department of Library Science, Udumalpet. She specializes in digital library management, academic resource coordination, and user engagement. Her commitment to modernizing library services and encouraging student learning makes her a pillar of our academic community.
