ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE has been functioning since the inception of Vidyasagar College of Arts and Science,
Udumalpet. In this competitive world those with a post graduation come across with bountiful prospects
in the employment market. Accordingly knowing the importance of Post Graduation stream in Commerce – M.Com is
also running effectively. The Department to its advantage has a team of well qualified and experienced faculties
who not only teach the students but also guide them to get into a better carreer. Adding a feather to the cap,
Commerce Department is furthermore offering Research Programmes M.Phil and Ph.D on both (Part-time and
Full-time basis). As an ever green course it has attracted students from in and around Udumalapet. It is
worth mentioning that at least 90% of the students who enroll in the commerce stream have moved out only as
graduates.
The DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE was established in the year 1991. The Department of commerce offers B.Com in Under graduates and M.Com
in Post graduates stream. The Department is full-fledged research Department offering Full-time and part-time
Research programmes. It has a rich tradition of producing university ranks since its inception. All the
Departments of commerce has a well-qualified, dedicatd and experienced staff members, providing quality
education and opportunities for the all round development of the students.
Students, after studying B.Com can explore opportunities in Finance and Banking fields. Many students enter
the sales and marketing field after B.Com. With experience, there is huge scope in the Sales department in all
sectors. Students who want to stick to the finance or commerce stream will also find huge potential.
The Fintech market in India will reach INR 6.2 trillion by 2025, providing various opportunities for those in
the Financial sector. Apart from the rising Fintech sector, there are Mutual Funds and Insurance, which
provide varied opportunities within the Financial space.
The banking sector has a tight grip on the financial sector of India. The total assets held by banks is USD
2.4 Trillion in India. All these assets will be given in credit by the banks to the citizens of India. Banks
need people from commerce backgrounds to manage them efficiently. In FY21, USD 1487 Billion was extended as
credit and USD 2.06 Trillion was deposited in banks.
